CAV contractors (GAP)

Contractors that provide spray or fertiliser application, harvest and vine maintenance services on orchard need to register with Zespri in the GLOBALG.A.P. Contractor Programme, before they start work.

Zespri GLOBALG.A.P. Contractor Programme

The Zespri GLOBALG.A.P. Contractor Programme is certified to the GLOBALG.A.P. standard. The GAP and GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP) certifications show our customers that our kiwifruit has been grown according to the best available methods and social practices.

Contractors registered in the Programme will have been issued a Compliance Assessment Verification (CAV) which approves them to provide one or more of the following on-orchard activities:

  • harvest (picking)
  • spray application (including weed spraying under the vine)
  • fertiliser application (including compost)
  • vine work (including all kinds of pruning and thinning).

Please note that the CAV crop scope applies specifically to kiwifruit that is supplied to Zespri.

How to become a CAV contractor

To apply to register, visit the Zespri Industry website and follow the registration prompts.

When registration is granted, you will undergo an initial inspection process with one of our Zespri-approved inspectors; this will cover applicable GAP and GRASP requirements for your business activities. To find out more on these requirements and the inspection process, visit the Zespri Industry website .

If you are compliant, a CAV certificate will be issued.

A certificate is valid for 12 months, so you will need to renew your registration by completing an annual inspection.

If you're a grower that also offers contracting services outside of your own orchard, you will need to apply to register with the Zespri GLOBALG.A.P. Contractor Programme.

As a contractor, it is important that you provide your valid CAV to the grower before you commence work. Additionally, the grower will validate the status of your CAV with the approved, suspended, and cancelled contractor lists.
